The Department of Environmental Sciences at the University of Virginia seeks a Research Scientist in the field of remote sensing with lidars, especially Doppler Wind Lidar. The tasks of the position includes the processing of Doppler lidar data from a moving platforms, such as aircraft and trailers; the lidar detection and speciation of near monomolecular layers of chemicals; the operation of Doppler Wind Lidars for atmospheric research; and the general investigation of atmospheric dynamics. Candidates must have a background in the atmospheric sciences and/or an engineering discipline (chemistry preferred) and a demonstrated record of research. Candidates must also have experience with field work, meteorological instrumentation, numerical modeling, and data analysis and visualization. This is a 10-month appointment and may be extended depending on performance and available funding.

The completion of a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Sciences, Engineering, or related field and post-doctoral experience is required by the appointment start date. The anticipated appointment start date is April 25, 2017.

The ability to program in Fortran, LabVIEW, and IDL/Matlab/Python is required. The candidate must be willing to travel to and maintain various field sites.
